A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on 31st March 2025 at St Charles’ Catholic Academy to celebrate its official integration into St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust.
Founded in 1896 and located in Aigburth, Liverpool, St Charles’ Catholic Academy is the first voluntary convertor academy to join the Trust. As the sixth primary academy within SJCMAT, its inclusion strengthens the Trust’s collaborative efforts in the primary phase. In turn, the Trust remains committed to transforming children’s lives by delivering world-class Catholic education, enhancing student outcomes, and providing exceptional professional development for staff.
The momentous occasion was marked by an official ceremony attended by SJCMAT Chair of the Board of Directors, Ann Connor OBE, CEO Andrew Truby, and St Charles’ Headteacher, Rebecca Dean, along with Trust, school and Archdiocese representatives.
Andrew Truby expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am delighted to welcome St Charles’ Catholic Academy to the St Joseph family. This wonderful school, with its long and rich history, will thrive as we work together to transform children’s lives.”
Rebecca Dean shared her excitement, saying, “St Charles’ Catholic Academy is proud to join St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust. From our very first interactions with the central team and fellow schools, we have felt truly supported and embraced as part of the family.”
Ann Connor echoed these sentiments, adding, “We are pleased to welcome St Charles’ Catholic Academy into the St Joseph family. This partnership reinforces our shared commitment to delivering outstanding Catholic education, grounded in faith, excellence, and community.”
Joan McCarthy, Director of Education for the Archdiocese of Liverpool, also welcomed this milestone, stating, “On behalf of the Archdiocese of Liverpool, I am thrilled to see St Charles’ Catholic Academy become the first voluntary convertor academy to join St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust since its inception in 2022. This is a significant moment in St Charles’ distinguished history and a testament to its unwavering commitment to world-class Catholic education. Congratulations to Headteacher Rebecca Dean and her dedicated staff as they embark on this exciting new journey with the Trust. We wish them every success and blessing for the future.”
The partnership between St Charles’ Catholic Academy and St Joseph will open new doors for collaboration, provide access to enhanced resources, and enable the sharing of best practices – all aimed at enriching the educational experience for students and the wider school community.
St Charles’ Catholic Academy officially joins the Trust on 1st April 2025, following the successful integration of Notre Dame Catholic Academy and St Francis Xavier’s Catholic Academy in 2024.
