SJCMAT Governor Conference – A Recipe for Excellence

In this section :

This year’s Governor Conference was held at the Museum of Liverpool at the Pier Head, a fantastic venue for our Governors to come together and make a significant impact.

The theme of the conference was ‘A Recipe for Excellence’, and it aimed to empower our governors, giving them the knowledge to go out and make the right decisions for our Trust. Hosted by Ann Connor OBE, our Board Chair; Andrew Truby, the Trust CEO; Carena Graham-Benson, our Head of Governance and Compliance; and Louise Rhodes, the conference was a fantastic way to bring together our current Governors and allow them to hear from guest speakers.

We welcomed guest speaker Rachel Goodwin, a Senior HMI, to talk us through a detailed Ofsted briefing. This allowed our Governors to fully understand the expectations of Ofsted and how their support can be instrumental in the success of our schools. The conference also hosted guest speaker Rev Deacon Paul Mannings, our Secondary Religious Education Advisor. This linked closely with discussions around the Catholic Schools Inspectorate. As a Governing group, we discussed how schools will be judged by the inspectorate moving forward while also focusing on the previous successes of schools within our Trust, like Holy Spirit, which was inspected in June 2023 and received an impressive ‘Good’ rating.

Our Governors found the conference useful, “It was really nice to spend time chatting to different governors and to spend time with my school’s headteacher without pressure.”

An event like this is incredibly important for us as a Trust. It allows our Governors to come together, speak about key issues and feel empowered to make the right decisions for our Trust.
