A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on 26th March 2024 at St Francis Xavier’s Catholic Academy to celebrate the school becoming the newest member of St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust.

Based in Woolton, Liverpool, SFX is the oldest Catholic day school in England. Founded in 1842 and still a mainstay among the local community, the academy is guided by the mission and charism of its founder, Jean Marie de la Mennais, which is ‘to make Jesus better known and loved’.

St Francis Xavier’s Catholic Academy is the first Liverpool-based secondary school to join the Trust, and the first post-16 provision. SFX will make a significant contribution to SJCMAT, helping to increase its capacity to work collaboratively in the secondary phase. In turn, the Trust will provide a clear focus on transforming children’s lives through a world-class Catholic education, improving outcomes and providing staff with the highest quality professional development.

SJCMAT Chair of Board of Directors Ann Connor OBE, CEO Andrew Truby and Headteacher of SFX David Hayes came together in an official ceremony to commemorate the occasion. Mr Hayes said, “SFX is joining SJCMAT at an exciting time in its journey as it evolves within the Archdiocese Catholic Multi Academy Trust strategy. We are excited to be joining a wider family of local Catholic schools as we continue to ensure a strong Catholic education for our students.”

SFX officially joins the Trust on 1st April 2024, ahead of Notre Dame Catholic College later this year.
